About this Role: We are looking for a highly dedicated and experienced Pipe Layer who will play a vital role in preparing and installing underground pipelines. Reporting to the Foreman, the Pipe Layer is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient installation of these pipelines.
Characteristics Duties and Responsibilities: The Pipe Layer will assume the crucial responsibility of installing sanitary and stormwater sewer structures and pipe systems. They will work diligently, both independently and collaboratively, following established procedures and guidelines. Daily site inspections and the adherence to safety standards are of utmost importance. This role also demands a keen awareness of safety requirements, as it involves working in a dynamic construction environment with various physical challenges. The Pipe Layer will be required to work under various weather conditions to ensure safety remains a top priority.
Essential Functions:
- Install sanitary and stormwater sewer structures and pipe systems
- Applicants MUST have experience laying ductile iron/mechanical joint pipe with a Heavy Civil WTP/WWTP General Contractor
- Lay out pipe routes, following specifications or blueprints, and coordinating layouts with the supervisor
- Cut pipes to required lengths
- Assemble, install, and repair underground pipe fittings and valves of various materials and sizes for storm drains or sanitation sewers, and water mains
- Assist in aligning pipes during pipeline construction
- Install equipment such as pumps, valves, generators, tanks, motors, shafting, conveyors, and rail systems
- Align and position pipes to prepare them for welding or sealing
- Check slopes for conformance to requirements, using levels or lasers
- Connect pipe pieces and seal joints, using welding equipment, cement, or glue
- Measure, cut, and leak test pipes
- Tap and drill holes into pipes to introduce auxiliary lines or devices
- Cover pipes with earth or other materials
- Grade and level trench bases, using tamping machines and hand tools
- Train others in pipe-laying techniques
- Other General Labor and construction-related duties as
- Must ensure a solid understanding of, and compliance with the principles of the company’s Employee Handbook.
Minimum Requirements:
- Education: High school diploma or GED.
- Experience: Two years of experience (preferred).
- Certifications/Licenses: OSHA 30 preferred, minimum OSHA 10 preferred.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position. 40 hours per week with an opportunity for overtime. This position typically involves standard business hours, it may frequently require flexibility, including long hours, weekend work, night work, overtime and remaining on-call.
Physical Demands: The job involves various physical activities, including sitting, standing, walking, driving, climbing ladders, squatting, kneeling, reaching, grasping, pushing, pulling, twisting, bending, lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs. multiple times per shift, using fingers, talking, listening, and maintaining visual awareness.
Work Environment: The work environment involves an equal balance of indoor and outdoor settings. There may be potential exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures for periods exceeding one hour. Workers may experience distracting or uncomfortable noise levels and vibrations affecting the body or extremities. There is a risk of bodily injury from mechanical parts and electricity. Additionally, there's a possibility of exposure to fumes, odors, or other substances that may impact respiration and skin.
