We are looking to hire an experienced Survey Party Chief to join our team! A Survey Party Chief leads a field surveying team, ensuring accurate data collection for projects like construction surveys using various instruments and software. Responsibilities include supervising and training crew members, performing calculations, reviewing plans, maintaining equipment, adhering to safety protocols, and producing accurate survey reports and drawings for clients and project managers.
Responsibilities:
- Direct and coordinate the activities of a survey field crew, providing guidance and training to junior technicians.
- Oversee and conduct construction survey and control network establishment.
- Set up and operate surveying instruments like total stations and GPS receivers.
- Collect and record field data accurately using data collectors.
- Perform mathematical calculations and ensure proper reduction of field notes.
- Maintain organized records of field notes, sketches, and data files.
- Ensure survey equipment is in proper working condition through regular inspection and calibration.
- Adhere to safety guidelines and regulations to protect the survey team and other workers on-site.
- Coordinate survey activities with project managers, engineers, clients, and contractors.
- Prepare and review survey reports, maps, and drawings for project documentation and client presentation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of survey computations, field operations, plan interpretation, and standard office procedures.
- Experience with a variety of survey instruments and technologies, such as total stations, GPS, and data collectors.
- Strong understanding of survey principles and technical standards.
- Knowledge of relevant software, including CAD programs and other surveying software.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently and problem-solve in the field.
Education and Experience:
- Education: Minimum High School Diploma.
- Experience: Minimum 4+ years.
Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions:
• Work is performed most frequently outdoors in weather conditions that vary from freezing temperatures to heat above 90 degrees, in wet and dry conditions.
• Work may be performed in confined spaces.
• Some exposure to odors, gases, dust and dirt may occur.
• The noise level in the work environment may range from moderate to loud.
• Lifting and carrying 10 up to 60 pounds frequently is required.
• Lifting up to 100 pounds occasionally.
• Reaching and lifting overhead is frequent.
• Standing, crawling, climbing, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling and reaching a majority of the time.
• Work may include manual labor up to and including hand digging.
• Some Saturday work is required. Sundays are rarely needed.
Job Type: Full-time, exempt
